Send Bridal Shower Invitations to Eat, Drink and Be Merry

Posted by admin on Mar 27, 2009

The cost of a wedding can cost more than most couples put down as a down payment on their first house. It is as if couples lose sight of the real reason for the whole wedding, which is to celebrate their union. The materialistic trend of the uber wedding has even trickled down to bridal showers. Bridal shower invitations often just obligate guests to purchase more presents. Guests should be delighted to attend, instead of feeling a sense of panic.

In this day and age when couples are waiting longer to get married and are already established in their careers, there should be a trend in bridal showers toward more fun and less gifts. There are many ways to throw a bridal shower that get away from the traditional “buy a mixer and toast the pure bride” mold. Let friends and family who will get those bridal shower invitations off the hook for expensive presents and let them attend a creative and fun event instead. If you are having a difficult time getting started, I will give you some ideas.

Something involving food or wine will always make people happy. What guests would not want to receive bridal shower invitations to a hosted wine tasting soiree? Your guests can taste and then choose the wine that will be downed at the wedding reception. You can buy jackets for the wine to hide the labels and allow everyone a chance to comment and vote on their favorite bottle. You can also host a wine party where your guests bring a bottle of wine to donate to your newlywed wine collection. Have sharpie markers on hand, so guests can sign the bottles. You will smile whenever you get a new bottle out of the collection in later years, as you toast to the person who gave it to you.

Food and cooking can be the centerpiece of the party too. One idea is to have all the guests bring the recipe of their signature dish. All the guests can then glue the recipe on a page in the book and decorate it however they want. You will think of your loved ones and your shower for years to come as you make all the yummy recipes as a couple. If you have culinary geniuses in your circle of friends, you can go with something more advanced. Each guest brings an hors doeuvre of their choice. Let the attendees choose the best one by casting votes on slips of paper. Feature the winning creation at the wedding reception and name it after your friend.

Let your guests receive those bridal shower invitations with a twitter of excitement, as they anticipate participating in something memorable and fun. Put your thinking cap on and come up with something different. You will be happy that you did not put pressure on anyone to buy you more gifts and will have fun appreciating the fact that your guests are there to help you celebrate.

Economy in mind, the shower may be engulfed in grandeur or kept simple. It is a chance for the maid of honor to make it a memorable evening of unbridled creativity.

Before the invitations can go out, the organizers need to agree on the mood of the party, who will be invited, where it will be held and so on and so forth. Flowers need to be ordered, music has to be chosen and favors selected and that by no means is an easy task. More often than not, a bridal shower is based upon a particular theme which is reflected in the decor, the food and everything in between.

You do this by asking the bride for the list, so you can make sure you have not left someone out. Then with the list on your hand, go over it with the bride so you can make sure that these people would also be invited in the wedding. It would be embarrassing for the bride if you invite someone for the bridal party when that someone is not invited in the wedding.

Now after you have the list, you should now have the proper wordings for the invitation. Make sure you have the bride’s full name, date of your party, the time of the party, where the party will be and the RSVP details on your invitation.

Many maids of honor simply print the invitations at home, or purchase special card stock and have the wording printed by a copy shop. If you have more money and less time, you can also purchase invitations. When you buy ready made bridal shower invitations, you can either purchase them pre made, or have them custom printed according to your design. Many maids of honor simply order their bridal shower invitations online.

Or better still, get your thinking caps on and write your own invitation text on plain invitation cards. Generate curiosity within your guests with stunning personalized invitations, while still maintaining the theme of the bridal shower. Experiment as you please, and you are bound to find the bridal shower invitation that will be an appropriate precursor to the grand event, the wedding itself. Shopping online also allows you to view previews or order sample packages, so there are no surprises later. Many online stores handle express shipping orders, but then resort to this as the last option to avoid unexpected delays.

And if the shower is to be a surprise for the bride, the guests should be informed of the time when the bride is expected to arrive.

Bridal shower invitations can either take on a traditional, a casual, or a general tone. What specific type you go with will of course depend on a number of factors, among them the type of the bridal shower that will be held, as well as the bride’s preferences. Bridal shower invitations of the general type are usually the most basic, and often simply includes the invitation message, the name of the bride, and the time and location. Traditional messages are of course more formal in tone, and again include the bride’s name, the time and date of the event, and its location.

Depending on the budget, the affair may be a grand one or a low key event. Everything depends on the maid of honor and her levels of creativity.

The mood, theme and guest list for the bridal shower is to be decided upon by the organizers before the invitations are sent out. Flowers need to be ordered, music has to be chosen and favors selected and that by no means is an easy task. Mostly, bridal shower ideas will comprise a theme that will be carried through from the venue to the food and everything in between.

Bridal shower invitations tell your guests who you are and what you represent. There are several international companies that focus on producing customized bridal shower invitations. They cater for every kind of taste. For those with a lot of money, only the best and the most expensive invitation are acceptable. This could be in form of gold and diamond encrusted invitation cards to show that you have really ‘arrived’.
